Cruis  is small but well run by a very active mayor. Built mostly in the local limestone, it has enough commerce left to suit basic day to day needs, ie. Boulangerie, bar, excellent restaurant (the best for miles around, and you can walk home afterwards!) and a multi tasking tabac, which includes basic alimentation.

It has a tiny market on a Saturday morning-usually veg, eggs, cheese, jams and honey. The village organizes several festivals through out the year, starting with the spring festival over the mayday bank holiday. There is also a music festival, a jazz festival and a patronal festival, and lots of “menus” this is the best excuse to sit out under the chestnut trees with lots of other villagers and eat a set menu (cooked by the village ladies) the wine flows as does the entente cordiale, often with a boule tournament or some music or dancing to round it off. They are great fun.

Cruis also boasts one of the finest confisier in the area, justly famous for his callisons and candied fruit. Together with his wife they run the next door gift/craft shop, which sells excellent Provencale products, both food and craft.

There is a small art gallery which hosts local artist’s exhibitions during the summer months.

It was the site of an Abbaye of which the church and cloisters still remain and can often be visited
